Our Leathers
We choose to use the highest quality full grain, vegetable tanned leather in our goods for a number of essential reasons.
Vegetable tanning is the oldest and arguably the most traditional leather production method still in use today.
Animal hides are first cleaned then allowed to soak in water and vegetable tannins for anywhere between 6 months and a year. During this time the tannins change the hide's integrity to a thicker, stronger material as it also inherits their natural earthy colours and distinctive characteristics.
This process also helps nurture beautiful aging through the darkening of the leather as it develops a unique patina. Vegetable tanning is also responsible for that distinctive and irresistible leather aroma!
The process is environmentally friendly, sustainable and utilizes an otherwise wasted bi-product of the food industry. - All vitally important aspects.
